Guillaume

Guillaume, a former crossbowman at Crécy, served as first mate on the raft journeying down the Rhône. He was a loyal and physically powerful man, with the build of a fairground wrestler. His loyalty was proven during a mutiny, when he argued against harming the passengers, specifically pleading for the girl Delphine to be spared. When violence broke out, he shot a mutineer to save Thomas, was himself struck down by the captain's falchion, but still crawled to prevent another oarsman from slitting Delphine's throat, heaving the attacker overboard before collapsing from his head wound. Thomas stitched the wound, and Guillaume survived for a time. As the raft later approached a dam of corpses inhabited by stinging creatures, he helped row and debated theology. When the attack came, he hacked at the ropes dragging them under, suffering multiple stings. Pulled into the water, he placed himself beneath Thomas to keep his friend afloat, enduring countless more stings to his groin and legs. The poison stopped his heart, killing him. The large abomination at the dam's center then took his head, and his body was pulled into the grisly island.
