The seigneur of St. Martin-le-Preux was the local lord of the plague-stricken village. He reluctantly sent his last three men-at-arms to search the priest's house, an act that doomed his household. The men contracted the plague there and brought it back to the castle, where the seigneur and everyone within died four days later.
