The armor cleaner was a boy who worked the market on rue Mont-Fetard, wearing outdated, scalloped fripperies that seemed too old for him. He had the air of a squire whose lord might have died, and he operated a barrel full of sand and vinegar, calling out to passersby to clean their armor for two deniers.
