He first presided over a grand feast in the Grand Tinel, seated between great braziers on his physician's orders, where he announced a crusade to Jerusalem supported by royal pledges and declared his intent to revoke the bull protecting Jews. Later, magnificent in red and gold, he presided over another feast, leading a stag woman into a grove of golden trees. In his garden, wearing aubergine robes, he listened as Robert recounted a dream of a girl impersonating a page. He suggested it was witchcraft meant to discredit him and his holy enterprise, then, with a silk-gloved hand on Robert's shoulder, he praised the knight's loyalty, promised him gratitude and elevation, and instructed Cardinal Cyriac to act as his father.

Slapped by the pope's human arm, Thomas nevertheless cleaved his head with a sword, revealing the figure to be the fallen angel Baal'Zebuth as the wound smoked and his eyes rolled back dead, a wicked, golden seraph's head already growing from the split.
