The jury consisted of twelve creatures, some animals and some birds, who were writing busily on slates.
The jury was upset when Alice tipped over the box, then diligently wrote a history of the accident. They recorded the King's 'important' remark, looked puzzled at the handwriting issue, brightened at the King's explanation, and wrote down Alice's disbelief about the verses' meaning.
