White Rabbit

The White Rabbit, a pink-eyed creature in a waistcoat, ran past Alice, lamenting it was late and checking its watch before popping down a rabbit-hole. After Alice landed, it hurried down a long passage, exclaiming about the time before disappearing around a corner.

The White Rabbit returned splendidly dressed with gloves and a fan, muttering about the Duchess, but dropped them and fled when Alice spoke.

At his house, he found the door blocked, called for his servant Pat, and ordered the house to be burned down to deal with the giant arm in the window.

The White Rabbit was in the Queen's procession, talking nervously and smiling at everything. When Alice asked about the Duchess, he whispered anxiously that the Duchess was under sentence of execution for boxing the Queen's ears and warned Alice to hush lest the Queen hear.

The White Rabbit, acting as a court herald near the King, called for silence, read the accusation, and summoned witnesses. He fumbled over the list and finally called out Alice's name as the next witness.

The White Rabbit interrupted the King to correct his remark, then hurriedly presented a newly found paper as evidence. He clarified it was not a letter but a set of verses, not in the prisoner's handwriting, and then read the verses aloud to the court when ordered by the King.
